One of Jason's associates, Linga Moonsamy, is skeptical of the choice to have them join the team, but they begin to coach the white bodyguards, who are led by Etienne Feyder. So they train, but Mandela decides to show them for what they are playing by making them teach rugby in small townships and spend some time in the prison where he was held for twenty-seven years. Mandela's security team prepares to walk Mandela onto the field for a quick handshake, and Jason advises everyone to keep their eyes on the crowd. The film was met with positive critical reviews and earned nominations for Freeman and Damon. With the mysterious and determined Eliot on board, Far and his crew are pulled into a literal race against time that could change—or even erase—their past, present and future. New Zealand and South Africa were universally regarded as the two greatest rugby nations, with the Springboks then the only side to have a winning record 20—19—2 against the All Blacks, since their first meeting in 1921.

The film looks at Nelson Mandela's effort to unite the country as the first black president in post-apartheid South Africa, and the ways that his mission coincided with the rise in performance of the rugby team. Freeman and Damon play the and , respectively. He seeks to unite his country across the racial divisions that have arisen. Invictus, is about the South African national rugby team, the Springboks, and their quest to win the rugby World Cup. While not directly asking François, Mandela implies that a win for their team in the Cup could have huge ramifications for South Africa by uniting Afrikaners and the other tribes that make up South Africa.

Before the game, the Springbok team visits , where Mandela spent the first 18 of his 27 years in jail. Priam takes courage from the idea that the gods have blessed his mission, and as Part 3 closes, the group reaches the Greek camp. When he comes out the front gate, they walk with him. Most of his works recount the existential problems of leading a human life and he advocates that the toughest situations can be overcome through perseverance and courage. He shows him as genial, confident, calming -- over what was clearly a core of tempered steel. Life is a struggle and is not absolute.

But a small bit of the foundation for reconciliation was based on the nation finding something to hold in common. South Africa went on to become a model for overcoming much of the hatred and fear of its past, especially through the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, lead by Bishop Desmond Tutu. The final match is between the undefeated New Zealand All Blacks and the Springboks, which 62,000 fans have turned up at the stadium to watch. This does not bode well for their hosting the Rugby World Cup the following year. Futuristic swearing, that shocks some characters but not us, adds a quirky humor.
